Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Steve brings nearly 40 years of experience in the minerals industry, principally with Homestake Mining Company, where he ultimately served as President of Homestake Canada Inc.; Barrick Gold Corporation, where he was Managing Director of Australia & Africa operations; OceanaGold Limited, where he served as Chief Executive Officer; and Ventana Gold Corp., where he was President & Chief Executive Officer. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from the University of Arizona and a Masters in Business Administration from St. Mary’s College in California.
Chief Financial Officer
Roger has nearly 40 years of experience in financial management within the minerals industry; Coopers & Lybrand, as a public accountant; Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation, as Vice President, Controller; Pasminco Zinc, Inc. as Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration; and Newmont Mining Corporation, as Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer. Roger also serves as a Governor-appointed member of the Colorado PERA Board of Trustees. Roger earned both his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Professional Accountancy degrees from the University of Utah.
Vice President – Mexico and Corporate Exploration
Phil has been in the minerals industry since 1979, most recently as VP of Mexico and Corporate Exploration. Drilling activities managed by Phil led to the original Los Gatos resource discovery. He previously served in the role of Exploration Manager at Linear Gold and in similar roles at MIM Exploration Pty Ltd. and BHP Minerals, and as a geologist for AMAX Exploration. Phil earned his Bachelors in Earth Science from Dartmouth College and his Masters in Geological Science from the University of Texas.
Vice President – Operations
John brings nearly 40 years of US and international operating/construction experience to Sunshine. Most recently, he was the Vice President and General Manager of Coeur Mining’s Kensington Mine in Juneau, Alaska. Previously, John was Vice President of Operations for Oceana Gold, and General Manager for Yukon Zinc. John began his career at Homestake Mining, while attending college, where he undertook various technical and operations positions and was eventually responsible for all underground operations at the Lead Mine. After Homestake’s acquisition by Barrick, John became General Manager at Eskay Creek in British Columbia. John since has held various mining positions in Canada, Tanzania, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. John has a Bachelors in Engineering/Business Science from South Dakota State University.
Luis Felipe Huerta
Los Gatos Project Director
Luis brings nearly 23 years of mine project engineering, construction, project management and startup experience in Peru, Colombia and Mexico. Luis joined Sunshine Silver in 2015 as Project Director at the Los Gatos Project. Previously, he was Project Manager at the Buritica Project for Continental Gold; Project Manager at the San Jose Project for Fortuna Silver, Project Superintendent at the Milpo Mine -Atacocha Complex Mine, Engineering Superintendent at the Antamina Project, Engineering Superintendent at the Yanacocha Mine Expansion and Chief Engineer at the Volcan Mine. Luis’s language skills and previous active involvement in community relations are invaluable. Luis has a Bachelors in Engineering Science and a Masters in Project Management from ESAN Graduate School of Business in Lima, Peru.
