We integrate innovative technology, safety leadership, environmental care, and strong community partnerships into every aspect of our operations.
“Sunshine has operated in excess of 5+ years with zero lost time injuries and maintains an exemplary safety record – and we’re not slowing down. Sunshine is regularly recognized by MSHA for maintaining high standards.” Justin Wilbur, Mine Superintendent
Safety is Sunshine’s top priority – our most valuable asset is our personnel. The team conducts continuous risk assessments, annual risk audits, and rigorous emergency preparedness to ensure the safest working conditions. This relentless focus has delivered an outstanding safety record, with zero-lost-time incidents for over five years.
“Sunshine has operated in excess of 10+ years with zero environmental incidents, citations, or violations. And continues to do so.” Marybeth Gust, Environmental Supervisor
At Sunshine, environmental stewardship is more than compliance – it is core to how we operate. For over a decade, the Sunshine Mine has maintained a record of zero environmental incidents or violations, reflecting our team’s commitment to protecting Idaho’s Silver Valley for future generations. The company is committed to surpassing environmental standards, demonstrated not through words but through actions and measurable results. Investments in zero-liquid-discharge (ZLD) water technology, tailings rehabilitation, and modernized environmental systems reflect a proactive approach to sustainability and the protection of Idaho’s Silver Valley.
Sunshine also partners with the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service on habitat restoration, campground clean-ups, and debris removal from streams. Together with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, Sunshine has advanced the Big Creek restoration initiative, opening up 10+ miles of new spawning habitat for native Westslope cutthroat trout.
In addition to restoring ecosystems at home, Sunshine’s production of silver and critical minerals underpins technologies like solar panels, semiconductors, and advanced batteries – making sustainability both a goal of our operations, and a defining feature of our impact.
SSMRC is committed to “zero spills, zero releases, zero adverse impacts.” This pledge is backed by measurable results in safety and environment, a culture of accountability, and continuous investment in infrastructure. By modernizing ventilation, power systems, and environmental controls, the Sunshine Complex ensures operations that are safe, efficient, and resilient for decades to come.
From the earliest days of the Sunshine Mine, the team has felt a deep responsibility to give back to the communities that host its operations. Sunshine invests in Shoshone County through education, youth sports, school food programs, and local nonprofits. During the pandemic, Sunshine donated PPE to protect first responders. The company also runs a financial literacy program with over 70 local graduates, supporting financial independence and workforce development. In addition, Sunshine is committed to veteran hiring and Indigenous inclusion across its operations. At Sunshine, we take pride in giving back to the Silver Valley, ensuring that our success strengthens the community that has long been at the heart of America’s mining heritage.
