Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Steve Orr is the Chief Executive Officer of Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining. Steve brings nearly 40 years of experience in the minerals industry, principally with Homestake Mining Company, where he ultimately served as President of Homestake Canada Inc.; Barrick Gold Corporation, where he was Managing Director of Australia & Africa operations; OceanaGold Limited, where he served as Chief Executive Officer; and Ventana Gold Corp., where he was President & Chief Executive Officer. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from the University of Arizona and a Masters in Business Administration from St. Mary’s College in California.
Jeb Burns brings exceptional qualifications to SSMRC. In addition to his role as CIO at Municipal Employees’ Retirement System of Michigan (MERS), he serves on the Western Michigan University Foundation Investment Committee, the Pacific Pension & Investment Institute Board of Directors, the Michigan History Foundation Board of Directors and the Mackinac Associates Board of Trustees. He is also the Co-founder and past President of the West Michigan Global Initiative (WMGI).
Karl Hanneman brings Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining over 35 years of mining industry management and technical experience as an executive, manager, mining engineer, mine operator, and entrepreneur. Mr. Hanneman is the Chief Executive Officer of International Tower Hill Mines, Ltd. (ITH), a NYSE-American and TSX listed company, where he leads a team advancing a 10-million-ounce gold resource in Alaska through project optimization. Mr. Hanneman joined ITH as Project Manager in 2010. Prior experience includes 12 years for Teck Resources Ltd. (“Teck”), where he was the Alaska Regional Manager for the $350 million Pogo Gold project throughout the period of underground exploration, feasibility study, project design, and permitting. After the Pogo Gold project was operating, Mr. Hanneman became Teck’s Director, Corporate Affairs, Alaska and served as Teck’s senior corporate representative supporting Alaskan corporate objectives for both the Red Dog and Pogo Mines.
Mr. Hanneman also serves as a director of Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc., a private company with an operating coal mine in Alaska, and a director of Northrim BanCorp, Inc., a public bank holding company engaged in commercial banking in Alaska. Mr. Hanneman has a B.S. Degree in Mining Engineering, magna cum laude, from the University of Alaska.
Wayne Kirk has over 35 years of experience as a corporate attorney, including nine years’ experience as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Homestake Mining Company, and over 10 years of experience as a director of publicly held companies. Mr. Kirk is currently a director of Gabriel Resources (TSX), Electrum Ltd. and Wellgreen Platinum Ltd. Mr. Kirk holds a law degree from Harvard University and has been a member of the California Bar since 1969.
William Natbony has served on our Board since 2011. He is the former CEO and Executive Chairman of Tigris Group Inc., a diversified multi-billion dollar family office. Prior to joining Tigris, Mr. Natbony was a senior partner at the international law firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP and was listed in Leading Lawyers in America, New York Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Natbony currently holds directorships at Gabriel Resources Ltd., a resources company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Electrum Ltd., a privately-held gold exploration company, Caelum Biosciences, Inc., a privately-held clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, and Panthera Corp. and the Orianne Society, charities that support wildlife conservation. Mr. Natbony holds a J.D. and an LL.M. (in Taxation) from New York University and has been a member of the New York Bar since 1976.
David Peat has over 30 years of experience in financial leadership in support of mining companies. He is a director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Electrum Special Acquisition Corporation, and a director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining Corporation. Mr. Peat was Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Frontera Copper Corporation from 2006 through 2009, Vice President and Global Controller of Newmont Mining Corporation from 2002 through 2004, and Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Homestake Mining Company from 1999 through 2002. Mr. Peat received a Bachelor of Commerce, Honours in Business Administration from the University of Windsor in 1976 and a Bachelor of Arts, Economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1975. Mr. Peat has been a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (formerly known as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario) since 1978.
Eric Vincent is the Head of Global Business Development at Mubadala Capital. Prior to joining Mubadala, he was Chief Executive Officer of The Electrum Group LLC, a New York-based investment, advisory and asset management firm with a focus on the natural resources sector. Previously, Mr. Vincent served as the President of Ospraie Management, an investment firm focused on commodities and basic industries from 2004-2012. Mr. Vincent was also previously a member of the Global Markets Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and a member of the Investor Advisory Group of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. Mr. Vincent earned a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, and a Bachelor of Arts at Williams College.
